Fujiyama Mama.

70's does 40's Floral Romper (Thrifted, $1)
1970's Platform shoes (Thrifted, $6)

People, it is sooo hot here!  On days like this, there is no way you could get me to bother with hair & makeup...  And this romper breathes like no other, so I'm as comfortable as I'm gonna get.  :0  I was so excite to find this!  It's another awesome find from my birthday thrifting extravaganza.  I love how the draped waist is so reminiscent of the 1940's rompers and dresses.  Good job dressmaker.

My hair is finally starting to grow out, woohoo!  It feels like it has taken forever- but I've enjoyed all the stages in between..  One day it occurred to me that I had not had my real hair color since I was probably 15.  And I'm talking 'overall' color, not streaks of blue, green, etc.  So, I decided to stop the dying, and enjoy my natural color while I can!  (There have been hard times, let me tell you, I used to change my hair constantly :).

Let me backtrack about yesterdays post for a second:  I think it's fantastic to realize a dream professionally, or otherwise, I just meant to be happy with our lot in life regardless if we are in that stage or not :).  I was trying to be brief, but left that out!

Blogger friends!  I need help!  What do I need to do (in the dashboard) to be able to respond to specific comments?  I've seen it in other blogs, but I can't seem to find the setting :).

This outfit makes me wish I was in Jamaica, drinking a 'dirty banana', getting a massage, and eating massive amounts of free food.  Which then made me think of the song 'Fujiyama Mama', and my general love for Miss Wanda Jackson.  Enjoy :).  ally.

Summer Bummer.

1960's Lt. Blue Blouse (Thrifted, $2)
1970's DIY skirt (Made out of a Thrifted Mumu, $1)
1970's Bass Sandals (Thrifted, $6)
1960's Neck Pouch (Friended, thanks Linds!)

Oh yes, I'm a lazy one today.  I am in love with this top, and I finally found (altered an existing) slip top to wear under it.  Thin, soft vintage blouses are the holy grail in summer, but then you have to wear a tank underneath, which pretty much defeats the purpose of wearing a thin airy top to begin with... ahhh.  The skirt I made out of a thrifted 1970's mumu.  It is soooo soft and thin.  And, these sandals have become my go to shoe- I'm sure you've noticed, haha.  It's hard to be creative when there are SO comfortable.  :)

Oh god, the city inspector just came in.  Errrr.  I've been dreading it, and kind of hoped that they forgot about us...  Nope, they didn't, and now the fire dept has to come in.  :(.  Oh well.  I just want it to be over with.  They are just so nit-picky about everything.

A band that I love is coming soon!  Maritime, an awesome band, is going to be playing downtown for free this summer.  I'm so pumped :).  I haven't ridden my bike to dowtown Cincy yet this summer, so I'm looking forward to a reason!

Haha, I love this picture:  The back of the skirt, used to be the front of the mumu, so there are the spots where the pockets once were.  Now they look like perfectly placed butt cheek stains.  Hehe.

I find it so unfortunate that I wasted so much of my youth believing in the 'American Dream'.  Don't get me wrong, I was a very disillusioned youth.  BUT, still, deep down, in a very hidden place, I still very much had the voice in the back of my head reminding me that I should be making a million dollars a year, that I should have a "big name job", I should be envied in my professional & home life, and that I have to be pretty (model standards) while I do it.  After all I am a woman, right?  It is so disgusting that we are raised in a society that makes you feel like you are nothing, if you aren't everything.  I am so thankful that I've snapped out of it while I still have youth on my side.  Let me tell you people, it is all bullshit.  Let's be proud of the little things we do everyday, let's treat each other with the kindness that we wish we received, let's respect nature!  Being ourselves is so beautiful.  Why do we try so hard to hide it with stuff, and things, and someone elses ideals?  These are things I continue to work on everyday, and probably will for the rest of my life.  But every day it gets easier, and every day it gets better.  Let's scream, "I am a nobody, and I am proud!" on the top of our lungs!  Why not?

End rant!

I told you that we remodeled the store, and so I leave you with pictures ;0.  Hope you enjoy, ally.

Flower Power.

Velvet Stretchy Headband
1960's Neon, Bell Sleeved Dress (Thrifted, $1)
White Cut-out Flats (Thrifted)

Hey!!!  Man, I had all my photos loaded up and ready to be blogged- and the other owner walked in :); I thought she was still on vacay.  Soooo, we rearranged the entire store :).  It took 6 hours, a lots of sweat- but it looks so, so much better.  It's finally feeling like a real store, and filling up with more and more goodies every day.

So, this dress is awesome!  It's a little big, but I really don't care.  I kinda like the tent dress vibe- and will be perfect on those days when I'd rather die than wear something tight :).  I drove a couple hours one day to pick up a bulk sale of vintage, and this baby had my name on it.  It probably even ended up costing me $.50 if you really worked it out.  Ahhh, cheap vintage is the best :).

Haha, I aways think of tons of things to talk about, and then I start typing, and there is nothing.  Guess what!  I might be going to Jamaica in August- woohoo!  I love it there- and I haven't been in years, so yeah, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can go.  Blogging from Jamaica- sounds good to me!

The headband I've had for ages, and the shoes were $1 at a thrift store in North Carolina.  Jimmy and I went there almost a year ago to work on a movie set (costume design for me, camera work for him), and the movie is about to come out!  We just got an advance copy and watched it the other night, which was really fun, but weird, because I just sat and picked apart every scene that I had a hand in.  Lol.  The night was filled with, "I ironed that shirt!", and "After the scene, he totally....", you get the point!  I like movies WAY TOO MUCH to want to work in the industry.  My life needs movie magic.

I love the headband, flipped hair, and cat eye combo.  It makes me really miss Mad Men!  What's going on people?  Is the next season EVER coming on, or what?

Mr. Frank apparently likes vegan pizza too; he kept trying to eat my kalamata olives!?!  Yes, he is a foodie.
Celebrating my 2 year Vegan anniversary with a giant veggie pizza...Mmmm....

On Sunday(?) morning I rode my bike to the farmers market and got 2 boxes of organic blackberries for $5 (so cheap), so I decided to make blackberry juice out of one box.  Here's a sludgey picture of my blackberry juice, banana, & kale smoothie.  Soooo good.

I have no idea why, why I got in the mood to make a dream catcher last night- but didn't have anything I needed except for string.  So I used a wire hanger, a doiley, string, sparkly gold elastic, and made some feathers out of paper :).

Until tomorrow, ally.

Crafty.

White headband
1970's Embroidered choker (Thrifted, $.75)
Puff sleeve top (Thrifted)
1990's plaid skirt (Friended :))
White tie flats (Thrifted)

Sorry for the break in posts guys!  I was REALLY sick.  At first I thought maybe I had eaten something bad, but then flu-ish symptoms started to set in.  I'm still not sure what happened, but I can tell you, it wasn't fun.  This is the 3rd day, and although I'm at work (and am able to be), I still can't really eat anything other then fruit without feeling sick :(.

On a lighter note, out show on Tuesday night was awesome!  The crowd was definitely one we hadn't played for before (for the most part), and they seemed to seriously enjoy it!  It's so hard to tell sometimes when people are just standing with their arms crossed, not moving, lol.  But this crowd was moving, dancing, and cheering!  It's so great when that happens :).  We had such a fantastic time~ and even got some pics out of it.

So yesterday, I was definitely at home in bed, but was able to actually stay awake long enough to watch a movie or two (score!).  I LOVE DOCUMENTARIES.  The genre is usually my go-to, followed by 'dark comedy', and so on.  Anyway, I watched "Freakonomics", which was great, but I could have done without the strange "I'm an economist, I'm so smart, I'm an economist, I'm smarter than you" interludes from one of the hosts, but overall a really good film!  Next, came "Fat, Sick & Nearly dead".  Awesome nutrition & diet docu about 2 men using fruits/veggie juices to overcome disease and obesity.  Loved it-
And lastly, "Selling God" which was great as well.  It was really funny, and stayed away from making me hyperventilate about the fundamentalists gaining power (even though I know they are, brrr).

Whoa-  I'm wearing a nude tank under this, I promise!  Geez, haha.

Yeah, I love this choker :).  I just found it about a week ago at a thrift store and couldn't wait to have an outfit to wear it with!  Also, Lea, I love this skirt woman!  It fits perfectly, and the buttons are rad.  (Too bad you really can't see the detailing of them).

No, I didn't base this outfit on "The Craft", but I saw a couple Fairuza Bulk pics, and my brain went straight to the uniforms the girls wear in the movie.  Where are you Fairuza????

Riot Grrrl Rock.

1990's Animal Baby Barrettes (Middle/High school)
1960's Space Age dress (Thrifted, $1)
1990's Velvet Mary Janes (Thrifted, $6)

What a morning.  It is SO hot & humid here, geez.  Came into the store and everything was in complete disarray- stuff fell from the ceiling, fruit flies EVERYWHERE...  I moved an open can and a swarm flew out into my face.  Grrrr.  So, yeah, fruit fly war has begun...

Since I stayed up all night glued to the computer watching old music performances, I thought it was only proper to dress in some 60's/90's riot-ey grrrl gear.  Baby barrettes?  Check.  Red lipstick?  Check.  Vintage babydoll-esque dress?  You got it.  Oh yeah, and you can NEVER forget those maryjanes, they tie the whole look together :).

My band is playing a show tonight (I know, I've probably mentioned this 10 times, lol), and sadly my fringe outfit didn't come together in time... But!  I found an amazing 1950's party/prom dress that I altered to fit last night.  I'm so excited!  Going to top the look off with a messy beehive and some major 60's eye makeup :).

Back to "Riot Grrrl"; I feel jipped that I had to be in Elementary school in the early 90's...  Although I was in love with Nirvana/Hole/My So Called Life at a young age, I had this aching feeling that there was so much out there that felt so far out of reach.  Luckily, I gave myself a break.  I was 7.  Haha.  Anyway, from the first time I heard girl fronted rock n' roll, I was in love.  And still am!  Watch the performance below- the energy is insane.  And, of course, I included some pictures of my favorite ladies from the 70's-90's :).  Enjoy!
Hopefully I will have a couple pics from the show tonight for you tomorrow, ally.
